Guru Rinpoche Caves cont'd...

AS i was saying... in the first cave you enter a large room. This is where Guru Rinpoche resided and an enormous Statue of GR has been built into a corner which runs from floor to ceiling.

You can see a shrine set up in front with offerings of every type imaginable.

Then you go through that cave into a smaller room behind it. This is called the Khandro [Consort] Cave and was the dwelling place of Yeshe Tsogyal. Sorry for the poor quality photo, it was too dark. But you can click on it for a larger view. You will see a beautiful statue of Yeshe Tsogyal herself.

The cave much higher up the mountain is known as Guru Rinpoche's Meditation Cave. It has one medium sized chamber. There is a very special atmosphere in this one considering it is where Padmasambhava did his own practice retreats and attained such wonderous results. This cave contains an absolutely gorgeous image of GR.

Finally there is a small cave around the side of the mountain where Padmasambhava left a footprint burnt in to the rock!
