HH Karmapa Softens Stance on China

Tibetan Buddhism's third-highest figure spoke to BBC China Service of his admiration for Chinese culture, suggesting a willingness to co-operate with Beijing.

The 23 year old gave this interview to the BBC, knowing it would cause ripples in China. In it, HH Karmapa skilfully supported HH Dalai Lama's Middle Way approach. He was also unambiguous regarding the damage China has caused, and continues to cause, in Tibet. But Karmapa recognised that it may well be him who succeeds the Dalai Lama. And that means it would be down to HH Karmapa to lead the way on Tibet.

This very curious and intriguing interview is reported in full here
